Injectable Fillers
More and more soft tissue fillers are currently being introduced to the public. These materials can be used to plump up thin lips or to fill creases and wrinkles around the nose and lips and to fill depressions or scars.
Here are some fillers used at our office:
- Collagen
This is a medical-grade bovine material known as Zyderm and Zyplast. Although not permanent, results are immediate with virtually no "down time." Since some people have a sensitivity to collagen, a test dose with a 30-day wait period is necessary.
- CosmoDerm-Cosmoplast
This is a dermal filler made from human collagen. No skin test is required and the results are immediate. It lasts about as long as the bovine collagen (3-6 months).
- Restylane
This is one of the newest fillers to become FDA approved and is a non-animal hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occuring substance in the body so it naturally dissipates into the body with time. It can last up to 8 months, no skin test is necessary and results are immediate.
