Otoplasty (Ear Repositioning)
The most common cosmetic problem associated with the ear is protrusion, which causes the ears to appear larger than they actually are. Although the protusion may occur on just one side, most often it is bilateral. Otoplasty is a procedure that reshapes the natural earfold and sets the ear closer to the head. Children experience this outpatient procedure under general anesthesia in a hospital setting while local anesthesia either with or without light sedation is used with adults at the Facial Surgery Center.
